Sand Holler Farm - Blog #3

Today brings The Tandooris to a full month on Sand Holler Farm. As it is to be expected, we’ve begun to get into a groove and are now spending our free time (when not driving to Austin) trying out DIY projects.

Here’s some from soap making:

Turns out Evan, despite all odds, came out on top with some half decent soap - Rosemary & Farro, which might sound odd, but it smells just great. Nicole on the other hand, found out when carving her soap that it had too much lye somehow and will be too toxic to use… boo!
This is our new Kumbucha (we had one in Bmore):

Then, one week later:

We started the mother from a bottle purchased in Austin. neither of us knew that you could do that. Not so different from yogurt really…
Ah, and here is mozarella:

Yes, we can now make mozerella cheese out of goats milk successfully. We also made a salty batch of feta cheese, but you’ll just have to take our word. Unfortunately we don’t have the picture proof.

Here’s bridge building:

Not our idea and not so much fun. Still, pretty cool, eh?
Other news that we’ve got is the craziest of car troubles. Our car, Lucy, is a ‘93 Honda Accord and recently she developed the problem of not shifting into the highest gear. Well it turns out that it wasn’t a mechanical problem in the transmission, which is awesome. Instead there is a computer in the car that controls the transmission and that was where the problem was. Luckily, Scott and Stephanie’s, the farm owners, son Yasha works in the field of electronics. So in an hour, he soldered on some new components to replace the busted ones and voila! Lucy seems to be back in working order. Neither of us can really believe that we just fixed what seemed like such a big issue, and again, that’s just awesome!
Cheers and Happy New Years to you! The Tandooris will join you in 2011 with our fourth installment. Then in 2012 the world is going to end and we won’t have to keep this up anymore.

Only joking! And this is Fiddle’s best Christmas present from Jessica and her crafty hands.
