Sandholler Farm - Blog #2

Nice view right! Yeah… that’s what we see every morning out of our window in the Harvest Room. Well, maybe not. We actually don’t have a window in our loft. This is a view from the top of Mount Bonnell. We went up there on a recommendation from Jessica and Alex (weekend animal help). All those houses are in fact as big as they look.

Oh, the Harvest House. We are in fact sitting at the table in the above picture as we type this out. We’re finishing up some breakfast before starting our last day of work for the week. It’s not all bad eating cheese from the goats on the farm, eggs from less then 100 feet away from where we’re sitting, and bread that Nicole made just the other day.

Meet Lucy. We didn’t properly introduce her in our first post. This is the workhorse that has gotten us to Texas and around from the farm so far. Also, to Evan’s dad, the poster did make it! In fact, the poster seems to be a fun conversation starter. Stephanie’s husband Scott, who comes to the farm three times a week, told us he liked the picture a lot. The lab he’s associated with apparently has gotten metal in the past from the “skip” zone at the Roswell Site - Metal of possibly non-terrestrial origin. Apparently it seemed like metal from an old aluminum can and no other lab with capabilities to analyze the metal properly would take them seriously, so the research was halted. Sounds like a conspiracy!

The white dog above is belongs to Jessica and Alex. Cricket is a bit neurotic, but she’s very cute. Fiddle seems happy to have a friend to play with on the farm since we have to keep him contained when the chickens are ranging around the yard. Calling the dog neurotic is a bit of an understatement though. Jessica asked us to watch Cricket for her one day. Well Cricket is very attached to Jessica and Jessica alone and if Jessica isn’t around Cricket will try and find her. This usually means Cricket will run to the road and just start wandering away.

The day was going fine until Evan tried to get Cricket back into Jessica’s house. We knew she wouldn’t walk up the stairs (neurotic, remember?) and that we needed to carry her, but Evan forgot and tried to muscle this very, very small dog up the four stairs to the house. Before there was time to react to Nicole’s warning that the collar was slipping it was off and Cricket was off. Of course Keely and Austin, who are new Woofers, arrived just before all of this and were enlisted in the 7 person operation to get the dog back on the farm yard and locked up. Finally with the aid of a golf cart and a bicycle cricket was back in a fenced in area to wait for Jessica’s return. Whew!

On we go. It’s workin’ time! Hope all is well and we’ll see you next time!
