Backbone Farm - Blog #1
Nicole and Evan are back on the trail. We’re doing a fall internship in the mountains of Garrett County, working on Backbone Organic Food Farm.

Max and Katherine are husband and wife and run the farm with the help of interns and their four kids. They grow various veggies (spring mix, kale, chard, tomatoes, potatoes and onions, to name a few), have seven meat cows, one milk cow, four working horses, three riding horses, two pigs, 4 cats, and three dogs… not to mention a shiitake mushroom operation with 100 logs or so.

We hoped to do a bicycle tour out to the farm, but it ended up being too much of a hassle to organize getting our belongs out here. We had to prepare for two months living in a cabin with no running water or electricity after all!

We’ve had a good first week here, working with the other intern, Eric, to pick, plant, and weed organic veggies. We’ve already learned a lot, and even been treated to some ice cream. We’re looking forward to the seven weeks to come!
