The Peugeot - Death and Rebirth
Thank you Alastair for helping to convert The Peugeot to a tour worthy bicycle. It held strong across the country and continued to even after returning to Baltimore, onto Western Maryland, off to Texas and Central PA, then all the way out to Western PA where we are now in Pittsburgh. But was it ever bulky, heavy and sluggish! Cleaned and freshly oiled - meet the new Peugeot:

Raw Food Pizza
The kids were getting hungry and since Nicole and I have a a lot of free time sans jobs, I opted to try a recipe for Raw Food Pizza from a new cookbook that Nicole got. Well, let me tell you Lisa Mann, the world is not going raw if we have anything to say about it! To make the crust you’re supposed to sprout the wheat grains. Ok, cool I’ll sprout some wheat grain, it’s kind...

New Beginnings (Pittsburgh, PA)
The Tandooris have done it again! Picked up and moved on, the wind in our sails our only guidance. The story of 229 Amber Street is simple and is as follows: The Tandooris visit Pittsburgh in the fall of 2010, as suggested by Max and Katherine of Backbone Food Farm (Backbone Food Farm Blogs #1 - #3). The Tandooris decide to move to Pittsburgh during the summer, since returning to Reid’s...

Biglerville, Pennsylvania - Blog #2
Happy spring!! It sure feels like spring in Biglerville today…as in it’s been raining for three days straight.  Not fun. Fiddle, on the other hand, thinks it’s really fun. Spring also means lots of babies though.  Baby bunnies and chicks!!! The Tandooris have had some early mornings lately.  Most farmers markets opened the first week of May.  We go to the ones in Northern...

valrie asked: Hi!

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon this summer from the end of May to the end of August. We're going to be riding on a tandem bicycle. :)

We read your posts, and you seem like really cool people- We were wondering whether there is any way we might be able to contact Peggy and John, who you mentioned in one of your...

It’s been awhile, eh. Where were The Tandooris?!? Well let’s play catch-up. The last you heard from us, things were going swimmingly in Texas I believe. Above are pictured Marion and August (Now engaged (/married?)) who came to Sandholler Farm after Austin and Keely left. We really enjoyed there company and spent a lot of time playing cards, making food and having laughs with...

Sand Holler Farm - Blog #3
Today brings The Tandooris to a full month on Sand Holler Farm. As it is to be expected, we’ve begun to get into a groove and are now spending our free time (when not driving to Austin) trying out DIY projects. Here’s some from soap making: Turns out Evan, despite all odds, came out on top with some half decent soap - Rosemary & Farro, which might sound odd, but it smells...

Nice view right! Yeah… that’s what we see every morning out of our window in the Harvest Room. Well, maybe not. We actually don’t have a window in our loft. This is a view from the top of Mount Bonnell. We went up there on a recommendation from Jessica and Alex (weekend animal help). All those houses are in fact as big as they look. Oh, the Harvest House. We are in fact...

Sandholler Farm - Blog #1
Hello, from Sand Hollar Farm in Texas. Dale, Texas is our new home for now, and that means we’re living about 30 miles south of Austin in middle America. We left Maryland after the Thanksgiving holiday with our respective families and drove off with our new dog, Fiddle (or Littleson), and good friend Charis. Charis was originally from Westminster, but she stayed in Asheville, NC after...

Backbone Farm - Blog #3
Hello hello! The Tandooris offer another chapter of their adventures on and off Backbone Farm. The opening picture is of a flatbed carrying a giant propeller through Oakland. This is one of the three propellers that are stuck on to electricity generating windmills, which are shooting up all over the ridges of the surrounding mountains. While Melvin chews on his deer leg (as pictured above)...

AHA! The last of the paper wasps inhabiting the overhang of the cabin roof. This was a monumental occasion for Evan, marking the end of his fear to walk in or out of the front door. So this is the farm, seen from the Hay field. Backbone Mountain is in the background and if you could see through the trees, our cabin would be a little over half way to the ridge above the farm house. This is...

Backbone Farm - Blog #1
Nicole and Evan are back on the trail. We’re doing a fall internship in the mountains of Garrett County, working on Backbone Organic Food Farm. Max and Katherine are husband and wife and run the farm with the help of interns and their four kids.  They grow various veggies (spring mix, kale, chard, tomatoes, potatoes and onions, to name a few), have seven meat cows, one milk cow, four...

A Hunt Valley Excursion
Nicole and I decided to take a bike ride up to Hunt Valley the other day. Our friend Katie, whom Nicole met at Atwaters, told us about a cool swimming hole off the NCR Recreational Trail that’s up that way and since it was so screamin’ hot, we decided to go for it. It was about a 2 hour ride to Hunt Valley from Fells Point and before we caught the trail we went to the...

From Manhattan, Kansas. Yeah, we’re still in Kansas.  Getting a little tired of it, in all honesty.  It’s hot as hell, all the beer is Bud Light, and it’s not even flat.  On the upside, we don’t have to camp tonight! Warm Showers hosts Sherryl and Morgan, two vets who work at the University of Kansas, have taken us in for the night.  It’ll be really nice to sleep in...

Blog 5 (Yeah Kansas!)
Coming to you from a public library in Norton, Kansas, about 120 miles into the state: Kansas has proven to be a lot nicer than eastern Colorado.  The towns here tend to actually have some amenities…always a lovely public park with bathrooms, water, and camping permitted. Often there’s even a store or two as well. After leaving our camping spot behind the high school in Idalia and...

This iPhone is pretty weird! Right now we’re huddled in our tent behind a row of trees at a park by the highscool in Idalia, CO. It’s nowhere town in Eastern Colorado amidst endless farmland, and here we are typing a blog. Our last blog was in Denver. We liked Denver so much we ended up staying there three nights. One night in a hotel, one with a wonderful warm showers host (Audrey), and one...

When last we left you guys were staying in Auburn, CA with the wonderful Chris and Linda. On Thursday, the 10th of June we left Auburn after having a great breakfast and meeting a “bitchin’ ‘ol dodger” named Scotty. We passed over the second highest bridge in the country, went down and back up hundreds of feet and pushed on until we got to Placerville. In Placerville...

Hope those bike are holdin up well! i take no responsibility when those derailers start falling off!

Remember! bacon fat is the best all around lubricant. as long as you can fight off the raccoons while you ride.

Hope your both doing well and enjoying the trip thus far!

Thinking of you both.

Whew, we’ve started this trip for real since our last post!! Sausalito to Santa Rosa seems like the glory days and Evan is starting to call 30 miles whimpy! We took one of the routes from Ukiah on the Mendocino Transit Authority to Port Arena on the West Coast of California. There we biked the coast on Highway 1 for a day/two nights, which was wonderful and challenging at the same time.  It...
